Students from the Media Academy on the Fremont High School campus in Oakland visit KQED pubic media in San Francisco.

Students from the Media Academy visited KQED public media in San Francisco and KPFA community radio in Berkeley today as part of the Exploring College and Career Options (ECCO) program. The trips included guided tours of facilities and hearing from staff members about their careers and job responsibilities.

Class of 2012 students Jasmine Gaines and Jameela Rougeau have produced a short video about WriterCoach Connection, the organization that provides writing coaches to 10th graders at our school and others.

Students named to national journalism honor roll

Eleven Media Academy students have been named to a national high school journalism honor roll for 2011-2011.

The students are: Cesar Sanchez, Leland Moore, Jasmin Garcia, Jasmine Gaines, Kim Mejia-Cuellar, Kristell Dantoc, Dejanay Wayne, Arnice St. Remy, Shima Kaid, Fernanda Lopez and Gloria “Jack” Mejia-Cuellar.

The honor roll is run by the National Scholastic Press Association. Students on the honor roll must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher and be involved in scholastic journalism.
